I lived about three blocks from grade school and usually went home for lunch.
High school was "double sessions" so you went straight through either before or after noon. Not sure what I did for lunch my last couple years after moving to CO, but the last half of my senior year I was done with classes before noon and going to work.
I was in Alaska: working construction, cutting firewood, and driving school bus.
