All the factory hoods on the 73-80 trucks buckled like that. GM built in a weak spot in the hood so it would fold in a crash instead of coming through the windshield and taking your head off.

If the hinge isn't lubricated perfectly(none of them were), the hoods would invariably develop a crease in that spot.

There's a specific way to close a 73-80 hood to reduce the stress on that spot. I don't know what it is specifically, but I think it has to do with pushing the hood back toward the cowl as you close it.
