I can relate. We knew by '71 that they weren't drafting as aggressively and that we'd probably not be drafted. Then something happened in Eastern Europe with the USSR and I THINK Czechoslovakia?? And I got a notice saying I'd been returned to 1A status. I called the draft board and they said the first 50 numbers had been revised in case we were needed. My buddy with number 71 laughed at me until HE got the same letter, called and found they'd revised up to 75!
Whatever the issue was it blew over and I got returned to 1H but I REALLY thought I should enlist in the Air Force or Navy to avoid being cannon fodder.
