Good grounds are critical to making the lights work. The 1156 pigtail grounds to the light housing with a screw, the wire is the hot wire from the reverse switch on the column under the dash. "1156" is the bulb number. 1157 is a dual element bulb used in the tail light, 1156 is a single element bulb for the reverse lights.
