Very true Scott.
My Sherlock Holmes deduction is that the interference was due to the judicious use of a lever of some description between the spindle and upper arm, probably to stop the ball joint turning whilst undoing the castle nut.
That probably says more about me than anything else!
Anyway, knocked the high spots down with the flap disk and all golden.
