Going in the other direction, I have occasionally found tools I never used.
I was using the hobby shop on base and the policy was that they would unlock and inventory the tool locker in your bay when you signed in, inventory and lock when you left. I got home after checking out and was checking my oil and found a 9/16 deep well socket. No idea where it came from. Same thing with a set of needle nose pliers a while later.
I have spent 5 minutes or so looking for my car keys, with them in my hand the whole time. More than once.
