Stainless will rust if it comes in contact with mild steel in the spots where the mild steel touches it such as when you drill it or hit it with a wire brush.

It's danged if I do and danged if I don't you could use a second right hand bracket but you would still have to cut the rivets and flip it over and refasten it.

It would be so simple for manufactures to do that at the factory and offer a left side no plate bracket it makes you wonder why no one does.
