Maybe a Canadian thing? I think my 77 GMC plow truck still has one of those stickers with "RED" in a similar location on the firewall. That truck was built in Oshawa and has a red interior.
Dad's 77 GMC was built in Flint and I don't recall his ever having any of those stickers so your reply explains that. We did find the number "802" written in tire marker on the firewall, bottom of the hood, and radiator support. I think it was also on the backs of the door panels too. Guessing that was some sort of build number / sequence number to match the correct parts with the truck.

Yeah, I was thinking they were typically black as well. Although I have found a few gray ones in some later 70's Novas.
