Inline 6 manifold/carb warmers?

Ok, so I am planning on adding some sort of aftermarket intake to my I6 250 in my 1963 C10. I've bid on a few 2x2 intakes, and, most recently, a single 4-bbl intake in Ebay. My question is:
I keep reading that you need to heat the fuel mixture for regular driving my tapping a hole in the manifold, etc. I heard someone in my hometown recently say that you could just use a heated spacer (?) so as not to have to tap the manifold, and add the space of a carb spacer for the fuel density. Does anyone do this, recommended for or against, or have an opinion on whether to tap the manifold or look for a spacer than is set up to be heated? Clifford apparently might have made a heated spacer, but doesn't anymore, I checked.

Thanks in advance.
