FWIW the "right" way to do that would be to cut each piece with a 1/4-1/2" overlap, then roll and double-stitch them, putting the seam at the apex of the bend. If you look at how the bespoke builders run tweed or leather interiors, all "hard" edges usually have a sewn seam.
