There are aftermarket 'tubular' motormounts for 4x4's but they aren't cheap, and not nesessarily something you need. Unless you're willing to splurge just for the cool factor. Here is the one from diy4x

There is another company that makes a similar one, but I don't remember their name ATM.

I would just do as you mentioned and do some comparison measuring and see what will be involved to convert to the later model mounts.
