What your 11 year old thinks cool now will drastically change in 5 years. Personally, I would want my new to driving kid in something a whole lot safer than one of our trucks.

Patina v paint? Totally up to you. I think it looks great. Mine is patina as well, it's too rough to bother with full body and paint. You don't like washing it, and you like how it looks... I think your decision is already made.
