Just the fact that we are all on this site tells me we were all born in the wrong time. Tinkering and fixing things is totally out of style in this modern throw-away world. When I was a kid, nothing in the house got thrown away until I took it apart. I remember fixing my mom's clock radio with a paper clip. She was amazed I could do that.

I often find myself giving up items just because I cannot get parts any longer. Our gas range is 23 years old and is slowly falling apart. I can get parts but the cost is outrageous. Wish I could fix it with a paper clip!!!
