In a nutshell, if you currently have 12v to the positive side of the coil you are ok....the Pertronix system will run it fine.

If you have 8.5 v going to the positive side it will still work fine.

It is essentially just acting as an electronic set of points.

The real question is what running voltage coil you are installing....the original type that runs fine on 8.5 volts or a true 12 volt coil.

If you run 12 volts direct to the 12 volt style coil you can remove the wire from the starter to the coil.

You should not run 12 volts permanently to the original style coil.

Coil wiring orientation is the most important component of the install.
