Holy cow, here's a license plate frame from a dealer in my hometown on eBay, going for $228:

Says the dealer was established 1952(A little before my time but I think it might have still been there when I was a kid). It's long gone now.
I've got one of these in my garage. I'll dig it up and post a pic of it. Then maybe I'll sell it on eBay
