Wire the headlight switch into a relay controlled by the accessory position of the ignition switch. Kill the ignition switch, and the lights go off. I really have no idea why all vehicles haven't done this years ago.
I'm doing this on a complete rewire job I'm doing, because I've never had reason to need headlights without the truck running.
