Oh yeah, been there. The trick to that is to give it a legitimate home, one you will remember. You can't leave it where you found it and expect to find it again.
Boog, I can relate to the shape, or even color, of something making it "invisible". When you are so concentrated on a specific feature, the actual piece can evade you because you are looking for the wrong thing.
