welcome to the interweb, it can be a great addiction. When I first got on-line, way back in the mid '90's I was quite confused too. I stumbled into this chat room, and everytime I typed something everyone would respond LOL.. Somewhere I thought I heard LOL meant "Looser On Line". I thought "What a bunch of Rude arrogant Pr**ks".
