Living in a hot climate, I'm a fan of phenolic spacers. I have 1 inch 4 hole black plastic Summit branded one and my engine starts easier when hot, and throttle response of idle is improved too. I never had vapor lock but my fuel would boil in my carb and flood my engine after a hot shutdown.
