Gauge Cluster Puzzle - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

It seemed to me that a number of gauge cluster bulbs were burned out on my Sierra Grande. My speedo and coolant gauge were dimly lit and none of the warning lights or turn signal lights came on. So I squeezed my big hand into the narrow spaces and replaced all the bulbs with tested, fresh 194s. Result is very little extra light and no warning lights, though I did gain the turn signal lights. Fuses are all fine.

Before I invest in a new cluster or circuit board, I'd like to eliminate other possibilities. Ideas?

Pull the bezel and have a look at the printed circut on the back side before buying a cluster.

Make sure the cluster .is grounded well to the cab as well

Thanks, I will check the ground issue. The truck's wiring has been seriously tampered with. The black ground lead of the gauge cluster connector had been cut and left dangling under the dash. I tried grounding that lead with a jumper but nothing changed. It does make me suspicious that the wiring may be at fault. On the other hand, the truck was in dry CA for its whole life and the circuit board does seem dry and fragile.
