Question Only the headlights work??

I bought an old farm truck not too long ago, 69 c10, runs suprisinly well. The only lights that work on it are the headlights. No parking, tail, brake, dash lights etc. I think the red light comes on when I hit the brights on the dash. radio has power, I noticed that the passenger fender doesnt have that block wired up. THere's another red wire from the wire loom in front of the radiator wired in the battery terminal.
When I put on the hazzards the 2 lights on the dash come on, none on the truck do however,

I had enterd this under electrical some time back but too no avail. thanks david

Re: Only the headlights work??

Tried a fuse. The fuse that controls dash lights also contols tail lights.

Re: Only the headlights work??

Try another headlight switch. when I rewired my truck, I went to try all of the lights and nothing worked. After troubleshooting for a while (figured I had done something wrong with the wiring) it ended up being the switch.

Good Luck..

a bad habit to get into when doing electric is the assumption of "looks ok" with grounds fuses and connections the differance of looking ok and properly inspecting cleaning and making sure you have a proper circuit is the differance in lights on or lights out

Re: Only the headlights work??

I might get some new glass fuses and replace them all. Some look bad. I wont be able to mess with it until Wed. Give me something to do when done with thanksgiving on thurs too.
Did I mention this was a farm truck and had obvious mice in the seat? dont see munched on wires right off. I'll spend more time with it and keep posted.

Reckon it might be time to bite the bullet and get a few new harnesses? Bein's it's a farm truck, and like you said, the mice have left tracks....I'd be surprised at what they didn't destroy.

Re: Only the headlights work??

Have you used a meter to check for power at the sockets. My Grandpa's old farm trucks would go years with blown bulbs, nobody cared if any lights worked other than the headlights.

I know it is stupid of me to mention it, but hey, ya never know.

Good Luck!

Re: Only the headlights work??

Update. Last sunday I changed some fuses got the the dome light working, crawled under the bed and the plug for the tail lights was undone, plugged it in and had one tail light. I pulled the bulb out of the one that didnt work and placed it in the one that did, it came on. When changing out the fuses and using a test light on the fuse box the one labeled "gage panel" had no power to it. It was already dark and I was outside so I called it a day. I had got the brakes to semi work, front half of master cyl is bad so the front ones were not working. but still cut tree limbs and hauled them off. LOL where can I trace the power from the gage panel fuse block at??
