Custom car hauler

saw this at a VW show at Sacramento Raceway. thought it was worth posting up. all i can figure out is that they cut a 4x4 in half and welded a car trailer to the back and left it in 4hi.

Re: Custom car hauler

I saw an AD truck like that before. This one probably has an Eldorado or Toronado FWD setup.

Re: Custom car hauler

Odd looking isn't it? There is or was a company here in northern Arkansas doing those conversions. Makes it easier to load a real low custom or any number of things. A real conversation piece for sure.

Re: Custom car hauler

Saw a 3/4-ton Dodge done up that way. It was definitely a rear drive truck and had single wheels (6 total). I parked next to it and wanted to look underneath and around but driver showed up just as I was getting out of truck and took off. Saw it a second time on the interstate with a truck on the back and a flatbed of crap in tow. He was getting down the road pretty quick with it too.

Looks like enough room for a rear drive, to me.

Re: Custom car hauler

They are not rear drive, they are like quite a few have mentioned, just a 4wd running with the front engaged and no rear shaft with a custom flatbed and trailer axles. I have also heard of a few setups using Toronado FWD drivetrain.

Re: Custom car hauler

Don do you remember that company? Seems like they were up around Mountain Home area or there abouts. I don't need one but I'd like to have it anyway, just because.

in a sea of resto cal vws all lowered on fuchs rockn the same colors and the same wheels, i like seeing something that makes people look twice. after all its JUST a volkswagen. I had a '62 vw singlecab with a cut and turned beam and IRS conversion dropped on its nuts and i caught all kinds of hate from the vw crowd.
