vortec 454

I have a 1987 1 ton crew cab with a factory 350 tbi . I am looking to put in a 454 in its place . I have found a 454 vortec not a 454 tbi . any suggestions ? good idea ? easy swap ? bad idea ? how much difference in wiring ? thanks

Re: vortec 454

I would do it. It will bolt right in place, and there are people who will mod the harness for a couple hundred. Then all you need to do is drop in the proper fuel pump, and your good.

I almost got a wrecked Chevy Suburban with the 454 Vortec, but it didn't work out for me. A few simple mods, and they can become monsters vs stock.

Re: vortec 454

A Vortec 454 will be using the OBDII engine control system whereas the '87 is OBDI. I believe all of the engine harness and a good portion of the vehicle harness will need to be changed. Plus you will need the PCM for the Vortec.
