Rear Tow Hooks on Blazers and Jimmys

I've seen rear tow hooks come up for sale on the forum from time that are configured like a coat hook: the hook is 90 degrees perpendicular to the base. I'm used to seeing the typical ones that are bolted through the frame (as seen in the scan from an old Motor Trend article) so that they hang down (as in the picture) or not when not in use.

I've attached a scan of that picture and of a few of the typical rear hooks that have been for sale on this forum for comparison purposes. Can the typical ones be used on 1st gen Blazers and Jimmys without a substantial modification, or were rear ones made like the fronts?

Re: Rear Tow Hooks on Blazers and Jimmys

Hi Dave,
DeadheadNM(Pete) has good pics in his K20 build thread on how he fabricated 2 plates to except the rear hooks.Maybe the same style mount would work on a blazer ?

Maybe drop him a line,I'am sure he would be happy to help.

Re: Rear Tow Hooks on Blazers and Jimmys

The space between the two rear bolt holes (latter two pics above) exceeds the available space on the frame such that you have to weld a plate to the frame to enlarge the footprint for attachment. These are not a bolt on add. Can see pics buried in my build thread linked in my signature below. The first pic looks to show front tow hooks, which are a bolt and go add for 72 K5 frames as these frames were pre-drilled for tow hook attachment (unlike 71 and earlier).
