Full time 4wd hub refresh
I promise I searched here before posting and came up mostly empty handed. Anyways I have a 78 k10 full time 4wd and I'd like to put new wheel bearings in it. I've only ever had 2wd squares and never really messed with older 4x4 hubs. I can't seem to find any information on the earlier hubs, everything I find is for the 80s style bolt on full time hubs. So I'm looking for any torque specs or general pointers, or if you're kind enough to do and general write up I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you for any information

Primarily because in the everyone converted their full time to part time with locking hubs. Much easier on equipment when driving on the road.
I can usually find a service manual on evilflay. A bit of an investment but well worth it.

A lot of the old manuals had write ups on how to do it. It's not much different than the 2wd bearings. You do have to buy the spindle nut wrench. I have been running full time 4x4 for 30 years and wouldn't have anything else. I used to chew up wheel bearings after water crossings so I try not to anymore.

Page 288 in the pdf outlines the wheel bearing adjustment with torque specs and the following pages go through the hub removal/replacement process. If you're in that far its always a good idea to replace spindle seals and the bearing (or pack the spindle bearing if its in good condition) especially in a full-time four wheel drive application. If you have full time four wheel drive you have a chrome dust cap with a drive flange inside the wheel hub instead of a lockout hub or the automatic locking hubs from the 80's. However, wheel bearing replacement is the same process regardless of what drive flange/locking hub you have.
