72 1/2 4x4 ton rear LIFT blocks factory??

Does a 1972 1/2 ton 4x4 have rear lift blocks from the factory? Mine has 2 inch blocks although I know they aren't original. I was going to remove them, but have been told I need some sort of block in there. Is this correct?

thank in advance,
Ray

I know my 69 did not come that way, But when I bought my 2.5" lift I put in new front springs and the 2" blocks in the back.

Kinda sounds like you have 2"' lift blocks, does it set level?

My K20 has a block above the mounting pad and at the bottom of the spring pack, right where a lift block would go. It's about 1/2" thick. That may be what you've been told you need.

It sits about 2 inches higher in the rear. I will look into it and see what I can find out about a block or pad of some kind..

Re: 72 1/2 4x4 ton rear LIFT blocks factory??

Those blocks would have been put in there anytime over the last 40 years by an owner ... but Chevrolet never used blocks in 67-72 leaf spring trucks from the factory. Chevy/GMC dealers would sell you a taller spring pack 'back in the day'. I've seen 67-72's with as many as 11 leaves.

Ford and Dodge have done it (blocks) from the factory over the years.

I've worked on Ford trucks that had 3" blocks fresh off the assembly line.

Yes I know the blocks were added at some point. I had a friend that thought I may need some sort of thin block or pad between the spring and rear housing. I have confirmed I don't by several members on here. I just need to remove the blocks along with shorter U bolts.

Thanks,
Ray

Maybe the OEM 1/2" blocks I mentioned above were only used on K20s, and not on K10s.

I believe that is correct. I also talked with someone with a 1 ton and they have a block/pad of some kind too. Slowly leaning a few things here

All aftermarket. Show me the factory 'build spec.s' that picture these blocks.

I have never seen them in any factory buld diagrams.

GMC K2500s with the Dana 60 came stock with blocks about 3/4-1",I'm estimating. I have never had a Chevy K/20 with HO52 have a block of any sort.

The early highboy's had 3 1/2" blocks and the later ones had 4" blocks.

Yep,the pre-67s were also Highboys, just like the pre-78 Ferds. It's all about the divorced transfer case arrangement. Except '60s Dodges, they sat lower than Ferd and GMs.

Re: 72 1/2 4x4 ton rear LIFT blocks factory??

I removed the 2 inch lift blocks from my truck. It now sits factory and looks better IMO. I believe the previous owner used it for towing. I just didn't like the rear sitting up higher than the front.

I cleaned and painted the U bolt plates/retainers while it was apart.

I like to thank Rob (BLAZERMAN) and Bill Athey for the information and answering all my questions and I got the new U bolts from Bill Athey (pickupman)

Thanks,
Ray

Glad it worked out and you got the look you wanted. If the truck will ever get off-road, you may want to trim the excess length off the u-bolts. It's too easy to snag them on something and bend 'em over.

I like it a lot better this way. I doubt it will ever see any serious off road use, but I may trim them at some point just incase.

Here you go!

Here are a before and after picture. Not the best picture in my driveway. I will take some better ones and I want to do a write up for the board, just haven't got there yet.
