NP205 output shaft swap question.

I think the answer is yes, but I am hoping for some confirmation. On one of the newer style 205s that has a round input and slip yoke rear, can the slip yoke rear be removed and replaced WITHOUT MODIFICATION with an older style "u" bolt yoke and output shaft. I don't mind robbing any and all parts from my original 72 transfer case to make this happen, I just don't want to go through any machining or after market parts unless I have to.

Basically I want this...

to look like this...

by just swapping around factory parts.

Re: NP205 output shaft swap question.

I think there is a difference in bearing bore size. Pirate4x4 has TONS of good info on the 205 and input/output swaps.

Re: NP205 output shaft swap question.

Redcap, I think the bearing difference you are talking about is on the INPUT shaft. I can't find anything saying one way or the other about the rear. Pirate does have a lot of info about the 205 but haven't been able to turn anything up about this in particular. A few guys have mentioned making the change but nobody gives details and I don't DARE ask a question on there due to the scolding I would receive for being a "dumb ass noob"! If none of the friendly faces here can help me, I guess I will just bite the bullet and make a post over their. Thanks.

Re: NP205 output shaft swap question.

Figured I would update this in case someone else wanted to know later on...

Dug a little deeper at Pirate and found this. Looks like it will work like I want. See post #9 and #10. I hope they are right.
