Wayne air compressor

I was online at a local equipment auction yesterday. There were
a few items I planned to bid on. I had seen this compressor but
was leery of bidding because of its appearance. When the bidding
on it started I had my finger over the mouse and my finger
twitched at $50 and I had a made a bid. I figured it would bid
up but it did not so I won it. I was stuck so I went over and got
it today.

To my surprise, It is free and appears to be compressing.
It is old but built solid. I know the auction owner and he
told me it was in an estate and covered inside. I do not know
how old it really is.

It is a Wayne 6500-HUC. The tags are still readable. The motor
is a General Electric model 5K284D1023. It is set up for 220 or
440 volts and is 7 1/2 Horsepower. I do not think it is 3 phase
because I have a similar motor on my Quincy. I believe that if
the motor runs, It will work.

Does anyone know anything about these motors?

Re: Wayne air compressor

Go to garagejournal.com and search the "show us your compressor" thread. Then join up and ask in that thread. Some very knowledgeable cats over there.

I know that's one big mother! It'd look cool all tightened up and functional. It'd be awesome if that motor works, but being it's a big industrial one, I bet it can be rebuilt for not bad bucks. Pretty cool!

Low abd Frizzle,
Thanks for the reply. I had to make a cart to hold it and got it unloaded. It is
a double two stage. I will check out the group and I sure thank you for the
info.
