Headers to Manifolds 72 chevy

I need a complete new exhaust system and decided to go back to stock type manifolds instead of the headers currently on my truck. My problem is now that I got the dr side header off the manifolds I bought to replace the headers will not fit due to the alternator mount on the dr side . I can take the alternator bracket off and it fits but then I have no way to mount the alternator back on . Do I need a different bracket for the alternator or a different manifold ? If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated .This is just one more reason I dont like headers.

Re: Headers to Manifolds 72 chevy

You have a manifold for an older setup. The 72 manifold will not have the drilled and tapped boss on it. You can either get a different manifold or grind the boss off of your existing one. Also, someone may be willing to trade with you.

Thankyou for the quick reply . I guess I will start grinding tomorrow evening after work as I need to get her back together ASAP and get to the muffler shop.

Re: Headers to Manifolds 72 chevy

Got the headers off , What a pain. Also got the driver manifold modified to work and installed both and then drove the truck with no exhaust to the muffler shop for complete exhaust system.
