Rear disc brake question?
I found an 8.8 with 3.73 traction-loc from a 99 explorer with disc brakes. It's about 4 or 5 inches narrower than the stock rear but i have some 10" wheels to make up the difference.
My question is should i change the master cylinder or proportioning valve? I've read that some people do and some don't. It's a 90 2wd silverado with rear ABS. |

Re: Rear disc brake question?
Are the 10" wheels on your truck now? If so, you know the lug pattern is different from a ford explorer to your truck, correct?
If they are for the ford, are you gonna run two different pair of rims (1 for the front with the 5x5 bolt pattern or the 6 lug bolt pattern, and then 1 for the rear with the 5x4.5 iirc for the explorer bolt pattern)? |

Re: Rear disc brake question?
yea i'm gonna re-drill the axles and rotors to a 5 x 5" pattern.
i thought about using adapters and 8" wheels but i think the 10's will look better tucked in the fenders. i already have both sets of wheels. i've read that the ABS will compensate for the rear discs without changing the master cylinder and prop valve but i don't know for sure. i found a master and prop valve for $65 each if i need them at RightStuffDetailing. hopefully i won't need them. |
