307 Cam question?

I'm going for the stock look restoration on my c/10. I would like to add a little oomph to my 307. I was thinking mild port and polish and a Isky 256, how would this combo work with stock 2 barrel intake and stock exhaust manifolds?

Re: 307 Cam question?

Skip tha port & polish & go with a performer intake & 500 or 600 cfm carb & headers...doing head work & cam then using a 2 bl & manifolds would be a waist..there are a few 307 build on tha site..peep those & i'm sure you would get all tha info you need..

Re: 307 Cam question?

If your serious about keeping the stock manifold and exhaust I would have them Extruded Honed to help them flow a little better and then get a new Holley 500cfm 2 barrel plus that cam it should hum along nicely.

Re: 307 Cam question?

What would be a good cam choice if I kept all my stock components?

Re: 307 Cam question?

I have Comp Cams Camquest program and based on a stock 307 in a 4000 pound truck the best one I found with the most average hp/tq is in the Extreme 4X4 Line. Its the 254H and its a high torque cam with good economy, idle and overall performance.

X2. A 307 can get over cammed very easily for a street driven vehicle.

Too much cam and you lose low RPM cyl pressure. You go from a small engine that is a little under powered to a REAL dog that might have a nasty idle sound, but does nothing performance wise, ant ANY RPM...

I'd run the exhaust manifolds "as is" there's not enough air flow though the engine to modify them, or run headers. I built a street 283 years ago, had it dyno'd (yeah, believe that, or not ) tried 3 seat of headers, and the stock rams horn manifolds. THe stock mainfolds only lost about 3 HP over the headers. so I used them....My engine builders son build a 307 street engine, shortly after, same result with stock manifolds.......

The stock replacement cam dor almost all small block engines, that Sealed Power makes, is part number CS 274. I sold a lot of these in days past, when I sold auto parts. I installed 4 in engines I helped folks build, this cam has good power, and MPG, depending on application and engine specs...
