This is what awesome looks like

just about finished with the 250.
the 1969 block was dipped and blasted clean. bored .060 oversize.
the original crank was turned .010 on the mains and .010 on the rod journals.
the rods were replaced with a set that were weight matched, shot peened, magnafluxed, and resized on the big end. new keith black pistons were used.
a new oil pump went on. a new stock camshaft was installed along with new cam bearings, and drive gears. the distributor was replaced with a hei unit from a 1976 camaro.
the carb came from the parts board, as well as the aluminum valve cover.
the intake and exhaust manifolds are from a 292, because they were free.
i'll try to do a video when i get her fired up

Awe man.....don't stop there. Plastikote makes some great cast aluminum and cast gray paint. Pull off that darn alt and shoot the body cast aluminum while hitting the pulleys with the gray. Pull out the dizzy, take the cap off and hit the body with the aluminum while holding the dizzy upside down. Don't get me wrong....looks good but you are so close to it looking great with just a little more attention to detail!

I did my alt that way and all the pulleys/brackets with the gray. Dries quick and is tough.

Re: This is what awesome looks like

Get some high temp cast iron paint from Eastwood's for your exhaust manifold.
I just did mine, and they came out great!

I wasn't trying to up ya with my pic. Just showing what a little well placed paint can do. Sounds like you have it figured out.

Re: This is what awesome looks like

Funny I just noticed the fuel pump. Looks like GM took a BBC pump and just flipped it upside down. Never noticed that on my 250.

Below is a pic of AFTER I took Gumby's advice on adding the patina look. I will never listen to him again!!!! LOL

Re: This is what awesome looks like

Oh and OP Dave would give you hell for the engine mounted coil, epoxy coils are prone to fails as is since the epoxy holds in heat, the engine will just make it even hotter. heat kills Ign parts.

should be an oil filled can coil. the oil cools it, its not old tech, its smart tech that works.

Ha, I repainted and detailed my 250 and it ended up looking like the photo in post 10 after I was finished dropping it in.
