Chevrolet or Pontiac?
This Camaro is like cheating. "The 427 cu in (7.0 l) was not available as a Regular Production Option (RPO). Several dealers, such as Baldwin-Motion, Dana, and Yenko, offered the 427 as a dealer-installed replacement for the factory-supplied 396 cid engine.".
Personally I lean Pontiac. Without the 427 SS thrown into the mix.

Re: Chevrolet or Pontiac?
I'm a bit partial to the 67-68 Firebird, but I wouldn't mind having any of those in my garage. I have to throw in the Olds Cutlass as well - I just love the lines on that thing, and Olds motors were torque monsters.

Re: Chevrolet or Pontiac?
Definitely partial to the Chevrolet side of things. I wouldn't turn down a Pontiac though.

Re: Chevrolet or Pontiac?
Everything performance GM built back then was awesome. These examples are of various years. I like them all, some more than others, but I put Pontiac on top purely out of being a bit more obscure, paired with GMCs, and offering one hell of a stout engine with a legacy. I like Chevy body styles across the board. '67 is my favorite Chevelle, but a Nova is what I'd own first. That is one Pontiac, Olds, & Buick didn't build a counter to. I especially dig the BOPs now that two out of three have been taken away from us and Buick does nothing exciting these days. The muscle cars I am into are '67-back when they were boxy family cars adapted to performance. In '68 the bodies were designed more with the performance models in mind with dressed down less power models available for families.

Re: Chevrolet or Pontiac?
I'm ok with any of them but the 67-68 Camaro is my favorite hands down. I found my moms old 68 with 396 a couple years ago and it's looks as good as it did back new in 68. The guy who bought it has kept it inside all this time and only drives it in the Christmas parades in Newton Conover NC. In fact he lives about 5 miles from dad but he want sell it unfortunately. Not yet any way's!

Us poor guys in the land of the Canuck had it rough. We could buy chevy's with chevy motors or pontiacs with pontiac motors. If we didn't like the looks of either we'd just buy a pontiac with a chevy motor. BTW Leonard, I know of a 427 in a pontiac 10 miles north of Leslieville! |

Re: Chevrolet or Pontiac?
Being the proud owner of a 70 SS LS6 Chevelle and a 71 Elkie. I voted Chevy but my love of the GM a bodies started with my moms 64 GTO tri power convertible. So I actually love em all.

Re: Chevrolet or Pontiac?
Nice pair Yeah you, not her. I was thinking the other day, if I could get an El Camino now, what year. I love each and every year. But right now what I think is the 68/69 SS396. It's the go between style. First step away from boxier but with same sort of grille/bumper arrangement as earlier 60s. And the last of the actual SS396s.

Re: Chevrolet or Pontiac?
Im not really a brand guy even though most of the cars and trucks I have owned have been Chevy. Toss in a few Mopars and Fords too though. The only Pontiac I think we have ever owned is my honeys old Fiero.
As far as styling goes I really like the early GTO and the early Firebirds. If I was given the, here have a car, this GTO or this Chevelle? I think I would take the GTO. Same with Firebird over Camaro.

Re: Chevrolet or Pontiac?
There's nothing wrong with either.
I have the 77 Trans Am I bought new as a Senior in High School. I also have one each 67 and 68 C-10's both LWB and 2WD, 68 is obviously the Golden, 67, very low optioned, but has factory AC. None are in great shape, I'm working on that!!! |

Re: Chevrolet or Pontiac?
Close call for me. I had a 73 Chevelle in high school and that was a fun car to drive. I wish I still had it!!! I sold it to buy an 87 Camaro after high school and THAT was one of the big mistakes of my life. Camaro was not a good car and I had trouble with it often.
My uncle had a 65 GTO convertible that I remember riding in as a young kid. He could make it squeal tires shifting into third gear out on the highway. THAT was one bad a$$ car! He sold it to a guy in Dallas back in 1990 or so. I like to think it's been restored and is still on the road. GTT

Re: Chevrolet or Pontiac?
To me. It's like asking, Do I want a blonde or a brunette.
It's just a matter of which one I can manage to get to go home with me. I've never owned a Pontiac. I've tried to. I really wanted a 69 GTO that this guy had. But we couldn't make the deal. If I had a second chance. I'd go GTO. Maybe because it was the one that got away.

Re: Chevrolet or Pontiac?
Well, I think have to go with Pontiacs.
I always thought the firebirds were better looking cars with that pontiac nose. The camaro's are so darn common in comparison...I think I appreciate the lower production numbers of the firebir a bit more...plus it seems every camaro is now updated and rebadged as an SS-396...literally seems like 90% of them now. It would be nice if the guys kept the original 327's and 350's in them...rather than big block default. As for the GTO, again....yep, a better looking car in the later 60's than the Chevelle, although the 66' and 67' Chevelles were a nice, smaller tidy looking car....those I like for sure. My two bits. Coley
