Ignition awitch removal
I'm having issues getting the cylinder out of my 70, the cylinder is worn out I think? and the key will come out in any position so if I try to turn it and pull out the cyl the key just comes out. has anyone dealt with this before?

Re: Ignition awitch removal
Thanks vettevet , I have watched a lot of videos on it including a guy drilling it out. I have removed several of these over the years but its been a while. I think the issue is the key won't stay in the cylinder because its worn out. I will mess with it again tomorrow

You should be able to get a new cylinder and keys from the local parts store.

Re: Ignition awitch removal
My 80,s key would pull out as well but my ign. switch on the column started going so after I put a new one in the key doesn,t pull out no more, go figure.

Re: Ignition awitch removal
Just a thought on replacing the ignition key and cylinder. Various vendors on this site have ignition and door locks keyed the same so you only need one key for the truck.

Re: Ignition awitch removal
Are you using the paper clip? If the key isn't staying in try another key. Don't force it in though. Its just to have something to turn the cylinder while you push in on the button.

Re: Ignition awitch removal
If you get a new key cut, it should be cut to a depth standard. They should have higher notches than your current key which has likely worn out over the years.
