GMC - Painted grill vs chromed/anodized

Saw this in Classic Truck and I really like how it looks. I figure with all the work my current grill needs (surface rust, filling pits, welding a crack), painting it would be cheaper than sending it out to be chromed. And since this is a project, I'd rather do as much as I can myself (and keep the costs down).

Anybody else painted your grill? How'd it turn out, how's it lasting?

Edit: And for clarification, I plan on keeping the black parts of the grill black. Just going from the chrome look to something like shown below, maybe a satin silver.
