Re: Yellow Jackets!
Yellow Jackets got me too. I was weedwacking the hill in front of my stone wall when I started feeling the stings on my arms and hands. They also got me on the head a few times. I dropped the weedwacker and almost got hit by my neighbor driving down the street. It could have been very bad.

We used mostly Homelites at work. That old yellow Mac caused me grief more than once and I was happy to get rid of it. Now I have an old Stihl 042 I bought new a long time ago, and a Husky 350 which has been a great little saw.

Re: Yellow Jackets!
I typically find one big underground nest per year around here. To eradicate them, I dust them after nightfall with this:

Re: Yellow Jackets!
My woodshed is usually being eaten by carpenter bees this time of year. Very little activity this year, maybe a result of two months of smoke from wildfires. At least they are docile critters, not prone to attack. In fact I'm almost never bothered by paper wasps or their mud-dauber cousins. What I do my best to avoid are yellow jackets & hornets. Those devils can be too aggressive to suit me.

Re: Yellow Jackets!
There is a simple and effective trap you can make to take care of those pesky carpenter bees. I made 6 and this year I got 52 of them

Re: Yellow Jackets!
Nice! I should make a few, the bees will probably be back next year.

- Drill 1/2" hole at 45* angle in the side - Drill 3/4" hole straight up bottom center and in jar lid - Screw lid to bottom - Place about 10' apart I put one in the center of the 10' wide woodshed, two at about thirds on a 14' building, one on a 12' building, and two on my 24' front porch. I still have six more jars I think I'll do for next year, but I'm very impressed with what the six did already Nope. Those were from a left over cuts of pressure treated 4x4. Those rascals don't seem picky about wood species when they're destroying your stuff

Re: Yellow Jackets!
Follow up - I told my students the story today. They were almost rolling on the floor laughing. I thought it was pretty funny too.
