Cool truck! Surprising gas mileage due to a tiny carburetor! Still pulls like a locomotive, though. Are all the V-6s that noisy under the hood?

Naw. I had a Union meeting [that I slept thru.]
Nice 478 V6.
YouTube then autoplayed into this Good Ole Boy's V12 GMC Rat Rod on Waylon Wire's Old Iron. 3 of them 702s could run a PT Boat. All one long block, but 4 separate heads. His heads all had the OEM valvecover paint job. Only thing I could think of was, ''Damn. I got a couple pairs of boxer shorts exactly like that!''

But I still like the L25 [292 L6 RPO#].

Re: Cool GMC Pickup With 478 V6

Just what cubic inch sizes were there during it's run?
I remember looking up when I heard one coming down the street but I never drove one or wanted one. Seems they put those V6s in everything from pkup to school buses and dump trucks.
It just seems strange they can supply enough air volume to those torque monsters through one little carb.

Smart phones don't do a very good job of recording engine and exhaust sounds. I did a couple recordings that sounded nothing like the actual engine and exhaust. You would have thought all the lifters were bad and the exhaust had leaks!

The 478 specifications show it made peak torque at 1400 RPM and peak horsepower at 3200 RPM. At those engine speeds, it doesn't consume much air!

This site should help and give more information than you ever wanted to know about these engines

Re: Cool GMC Pickup With 478 V6

All about high torque at low rpm and long term durability. Now what if GMC had the 401 V6 option ( in addition to the 396-402 V8 ) in a 3/4-1 ton pickup with the 3.54 ratio?
