Re: Gmc jimmy rust repair

im betting the rust creep goes well up into the space between the inner and outer roof panels... all the rust needs removed or itll come back and haunt ya...
for starters take a wire brush and clean the areas you can get to and see what it looks like under what we can see in the pic

I Have been waiting in the Rafters.

You could buy a roof skin for a truck.

Remove the roof skin.

Then you could see what is going on

Then add a lip to the truck skin ,
Since Blazer or Jimmy roof skins are not. Available.

How much do gutted bodies go for by you? Might be time and effort ahead to swap a better “tub” on your frame. If that’s the only rot on yours i would scab on a roof section from a tub that has a rusty bottom.

Almost everything is fixable but sometimes it makes more cents to start with something better.

I just looked and the windshields are different in the jimmy and the truck.

So that roof skin may not be exactly the same.
It would have to be tweeked.

If you could find one in a (Pull your part)

That is not rusted you would be better off.

Disecting the one at a pull your part could help you practice
Before you remove the one on your Jimmy.

That’s the only rust besides the cracked front seat mounts.none of the scrap yards around me have any blazers and haven’t for a few years I can get trucks by the dozen but not the blazers

If you can find a 1973-1975 windshield frame (K5) you could convert to a full convertible top. There are folks hoarding the early windshield frames for that purpose.

I thought about that but I don’t know what is involved with doing that.at this point I’m thinking about parting it out and starting over

Also if you look at the Screwdriver in the pic that’s how far down the rust goes on both sides
