Re: A '54 named Busty

so got a call from the Filling Station and they told me they have the window regulators and can ship them right away, but they do not stock the actual door glass and that has to come from their supplier directly to me, and would cost extra freight, I said ok, so they will call me back with actual shipping cost once the supplier is ready to ship them, thought you may like to know

I would suggest taking the cracked glass to a local glass shop and have them just cut you a piece. You will probably pay more in freight than the price of the glass locally.

Just an idea.

thanks Marc, I didn't even think of that, but what we really need is a new metal channel that runs along the bottom of the glass, I think ours are worn and part of the problem of the windows not moving smoothly

Order the glass channel separate. Any glass shop can set the glass into the new channel for ya. Just trying to offer a 'cheaper" solution.

but they were only like $85 bucks a side for glass and channel, I don't think that's too expensive

Re: A '54 named Busty

so two weeks later we're still sitting here twirling our thumbs waiting on the door glass to come in, it's still on backorder from the Filling Station

this is literally the last thing that needs doing on this rig and the nice weather is slipping away and I would love to take the ex girlfriend to a winery or a brewery and get a bite to eat before winter comes

Cancel your order and have the glass cut locally. You could be on the rd by this weekend.

I got mine here. They have both sides in stock and I was very satisfied with the fit.

ha ha, right! the cruising is fine, it's the leaving her in a sketch parking lot or an alley when we go in to a bar that I'm worrying about, I mean the truck is wired with like three different wires that's all

That's a great point... Ha Ha. I must say, my first real trip down the road was very sketchy. No side glass in the back of the Suburban. It was June so the weather was in my favor then...

um, if going sketch places, time for some security measures!

put a hidden switch in-line with the fuel pump itself, the NSS, the computer ACC on wire, etc. maybe a hidden battery kill switch so there's nothing at the engine to jump the starter with, or 'The Club', maybe a removeable steering wheel, or pad lock on the shifter. i actually use Parker hydraulic ball valves in the brakes for parking brakes and cover the knobs when i go in places so all 4 brakes are locked solid.

Re: A '54 named Busty

yeah, you gotta do what you gotta do as far as security goes. you can't stop driving it because you're afraid it could get stolen. you do need to do things that make sense though. it's bad enough with a regular vehicle. cops will say "make it obviously harder to steal and the perp will move to the next one" thats good for the everyday vehicles but the one-offs need something better. maybe a motion activated dash cam that sends your phone a notification and video when the motion detectors go off. just a thought but could be cheap insurance.

Re: A '54 named Busty

i always figure, if someone is planning to steel it, they'll get it one way or another no matter what you do. really all you are trying to deter is the idiot walking by who wants a joy ride.

on the other hand, Verizon sells an actual GPS/cellular tracking device (VZ Smart Locator) that can be run wired or wireless. $100 with the first year of service free, then $3 a month. that's cheaper than i expected. i'm thinking i'll get one of these and toss it in the jeep or the 55, whatever i'm driving at the time. except they say the battery life is kinda crap, so you can leave it plugged in all the time to use the car battery and only use it's own if someone disconnects it.
