Hot peppers you say? This is THE classic all time NM favorite!
Double meat double cheese and a hot custom developed variety of Hatch Green chile on top, number 2 on my list! https://www.lotaburger.com/menu/#burgers

My list: 1) is a local joint called the Thurman Cafe. Many people call it "Thurman's" like it is named for a person. It is not, the name comes from the street where it is located. It is known outside Columbus because of "The Arnold Classic" bodybuilding event. People come here from all over the world for that and they go to that place like it's some kind of Mecca. They are known for those huge burgers. The most popular being called the "Thurmanator" for the obvious reason above. 2) Red Robin, it's good for a chain (casual dining) 3) 5Guys, expensive for what it is, but acceptable. 4)In-N-Out, I've only had them a few times, because they are not here. IIRC the closest one is in East St Louis, Illinois right before you hit the river going west. I had it in Huntsville Texas too. 5)What a Burger, again only a few times because of location. I liked it when I was down there though.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??
I feel safe eating at restaurants knowing the employees couldn't possibly handle my food any worse that I do
I see mention of Burger King. I'd say they make the best burgers of the national drive-thru choices. I hadn't been for years, but a few weeks ago I headed out Friday after work on my way up to visit my mom. I didn't take time to cook so I rolled through a Burger King, remembering I used to take my younger son there a lot. It was really good.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??
I passed on the filet mignon I mentioned earlier, since it was $19 per pound. Got some other decent looking steak for $10 per pound. It's on the grill, right now. Got mushrooms on the sauté, to boot. Yummay!

1. 5 Guys - Bacon Cheeseburger
2. Jacks - Big Bacon 3. Burger King - Double Stacker 5 Guys is my go to and the other 2 are just ones I get whenever I'm not close to a 5 Guys and I don't want chicken tenders.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??
Yeah, one of my sons is the grillmeister, I just cook so I have something to eat. He really enjoys the whole process of smoking a tri-tip, but he leaves the kitchen a real mess. I usually just "boil" chicken tenderloins from CostCo. I use a lot of water because of the salt content in those things. I end up with low salt and low saturated fat. I'll just die from something else, is what I told my doctor.

Reminds me of a time my first wife and I went over to her sister's place for dinner. She made hot dogs with green chile, some sort of white cheese, avocado, and get this... Mayonnaise. Mayonnaise on a hot dog ? WTF? are you crazy? But I didn't care because I liked watching her run around the kitchen. She was pretty easy on the eyes. I'd keep my sunglasses on so my wife wouldn't catch me checking out her sister. Didn't work. She looked at me and said " Who do you think you're fooling' ?? Busted!!! But those were some of the most delicious hot dogs I've ever had and I had to sleep in the car because I pissed off my wife flirting with her sister. Her sister liked me a lot and vice versa and my wife didn't like it at all.

I still think the Whopper is a decent burger despite its shrinkage. Unlike the Jumbo Jack, and the Famous Star. Those were good burgers and now they are just garbage. The same with Taco Bell. It's not what it was. They just cut too many corners. At least a Whopper is pretty much the same. I'm older and don't eat as much as I did when I was young.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??
We do not take out a lot because it is expensive. My wife like's McDonalds every once in a while. Two smallish burgers, two fries and a 6 piece nugget is almost $30 and no drinks. So they do not see business much anymore. Five guy's was okay but to expensive. They closed here anyway. We liked Island's fine maybe once a month, they closed as well. The Habit is fine as well.
Really no preference, prefer to make my own at this point in time. To me a burger is a burger. Kind of hard to make it really bad. Remember we went to place in Westlake that had these Kobi beef burgers. My wife's friend who raved about the place had given her a gift certificate for $50. Still cost us about $15 more and I would have preferred a burger form BK, not a frequent place.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??
I'll bet. Omaha is known for the best meat. Best meat equals best burgers.
Omaha burger meat, Wisconsin cheese, and Hatch Chile's. Heaven on earth. And don't forget the Idaho potatoes for fries. Give me those ingredients and you better fasten your seatbelt.

It's like washing your car. You can do it. But sometimes you just would rather pay someone else to do it. I've been to Island's and found it to be so so . The Habit is good but it's not inexpensive. Never went to 5 Guys because I heard it was pricy. My buddy was complaining about the fact that he spent something like 20 bucks on a burger and fries there. So I passed.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??
It seems to me that pretty much all of the big chain places have traded quality for profit. Whether it is the lowest-end fast food or the more mid-range casual dining joints, none seems like it used to be.
I don't know if it's because they are testing the market, to see what is acceptable and try to surf that edge, or what? In more recent times, some of the problem may be attributable to lack-luster employees, but that doesn't explain the actual food, just the prep and presentation. If the quality or size of the food itself drops, that's a corporate choice. A lot of places around here are limiting hours because of staffing issues. Some have even closed some locations and shifting employees to others, to keep open. Friday afternoon, on my way home, I stopped at the local Meijer for some groceries. The Subway inside the store was closed! at 4:00 on a Friday? They had a sign apologizing for the closure, due to staffing shortage.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??
i like freddys double steakburger, it was great then meh for a while but lately its better, it came out during the whole smash burger craze and has stuck around. disappointing fries though.
in n out is a fav of mine, but none local, i had it 3-4 days of the week i spent in az. talk about disappointing fries though. five guys is ok, i wish someone would tell these big chains how to blanch potatoes after cutting though, five guys is the worst for mushy fries and its all because they dont blanch them, which i get it, it costs a lot more money to cut fries and boil them and then freeze them than it does just to cut on site and throw them in grease. but every time you ask for well done fries or extra crispy they get pissy and dont do it. i loved the carl jr/hardees super star till they changed the bun in about 2010. another money decision. the hot ham and cheese is still a banger though. if i got in the truck to go for a burger i would probably go to ihop. great burger, great fries and you can get gravy on them and a side of pancakes. red robin is on the maybe list too, mostly because of the fries. they wont put the pub burger aoli on the reg burgers though. very strange. fatburger just opened here and its ok, not what i remember from the 90s. whataburger is coming next year.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??
^^^ That's funny, too. I couldn't afford to share my beer with some of the guys I know. One guy buys Milwaukee's Beast cases in quantity to get a big discount on cheap beer. He likes a lot of beer and he has a handful of beer drinking neighbors who stop by often. I don't have neighbors I mix with and it's rare to have a visitor. I drink a couple decent bottled beers and am good. I probably spend less than he does on beer.
Quote:
But you struck a chord with Red Robin fries. They sell ranch fries in grocery stores and those are what I have to have. But again! Since earlier this summer I haven't been seeing them in the frozen food section. I need to check other stores. Not sure if Food Lion dumped the brand or maybe they are having issues... or no longer sell in stores

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??
No thanks. I can live without pics of Tyler goose stepping to the pooper.
I worked with a guy and we would go to McD's He always ordered fries with no salt. Then he would salt them. So I asked him about it. He said it was because they have to make them fresh if you order them that way. He didn't want the fries that were piled up sitting under the heat lamp for god knows how long. It kind of makes sense. He would also order the ketchup that they put on the cheeseburgers. He said it was better than the packets that they gave you. I remember thinking jeez dude it's just McDonald's. Take a chill pill. I worked with another weird guy and we would go to BK. He would order 2 Whoppers with no mayonnaise because he was on a diet. Huh???
