Lynsi Snyder owns all the In N Out's. She inherited them when she was 17 years old. Sad story how her family died. But she's now about 40 years old and worth 4 billion dollars.

My burgers were good tonight but I put Kim Chi on mine instead of lettuce, and I probably shouldn't have done that. It said "Hot' on the label and they weren't kidding about that one. It's gurgling in my gut about as well as the 3 day chili dogs right now.

Oops! Gotta go! The toilet awaits.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

the way i understand it, franchises are a company store, not really an entrepreneurial device. meaning, an in n out in doodah ks would sell hundreds of thousands, millions maybe of burgers per year, with lines out the doors and cars lined up around the block.

but the franchise says you have to buy the ingredients from corporate. and corporate is 1500 miles from doodah. they do this to keep a tight control on quality, it will taste just like an in n out from california because only the kitchen is different. buns and meat and even the famous onions dont like 1500 mile trips, and they may not have a local source for the potatoes (which is fine with me, I hate their fries, even animal style)

here in doodah for the longest time we could not get any outside chains, even the ones that offered franchises in kansas. there is a certain owner of a certain local chain and would "lobby" (bribe) to keep outside chains away to keep from diminishing local entrepreneurs ( and diminishing their wallets). lately though we are getting some of the more famous ones. chik fil a was the first, back when I was in college. now fatburger, whataburger, a whole host of less famous but national chains like slim chickens etc. still patiently waiting for white castle to return to its founding city! talk about good fries!

oh and i had arf and barf (dog and shake) yesterday after talking about it. mind blowing how good it is. they let you mix shake flavors too, chocolate banana!

In n out is not a franchise, it’s privately owned. Their quality control is second to none.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

I used to go to this Bob's Big Boy when I worked in Downey California.

It's still there over on Firestone Blvd.

Trivia question...What famous people were from Downey?

In the music world, the Carpenters and James Hetfield. Not the same decade and definitely not the same genre

The Beach Boys were 20 mins away in Hawthorne.

You nailed it! That is the answer. I didn't think anyone would get it. The Carpenters and Metallica are kind of a stretch. I met Richard Carpenter at a Mopar show. Really nice guy with some REALLY nice old Chryslers.

Downey Toyota was famous for taking Toyota Trucks steps beyond, including 4wd conversions before '78 when factory 4wds came out.

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

We have Big Boy here, exactly the same, except the name.
They are called Frisch's. Back in the day (70s) they had had car-hops on skates as well as a sit-down dining room. Those were removed at different times and went to full inside service.
Funny thing is that Columbus Ohio has always been known as a "test market". It wasn't just restaurants, but that was a big part of it.
But we don't (or didn't) have a few pretty well-known chains that exist in other places in Ohio.
Whataburger and In-N-out are no where near, but Sonic and Hardees both had Ohio locations.
Sonic was in Nelsonville, about 60 miles away, for more than 10 years before they got here.
Hardee's has been in Circleville, about 30 miles away, for decades. I'm not sure when it opened originally, but I know for sure since the mid 80s. Now there is one on the south end of Columbus, but only for a couple of years.

Frisch's must be some kind of a franchise, but how did they get the name changed? partially anyway

Re: What are your top 5 take out burgers??

When I moved to Mt. Airy, MD there was a Roy Rogers in the corner of the shopping center lot. Then Hardees bought them and that's what it became. Then after a while they switched it back to Roy Rogers. My friend who worked for a sign company said between Roy's Hardees and all the bank buy-outs that were going on, it made his boss a rich man. Anyway, Roy Rogers closed up and now it's a Starbucks. I thought RR and Hardees went out of business but I see them other places.

I don't know if Mt. Airy is a test market town or not, but I've watched it go through growing pains. We had a Radio Shack and Subway when I moved here in the '80s. We are about the midpoint on I-70 between Baltimore and Frederick, MD, which is the hub city for the region. So we are where things thin out between, but also the hub for a large rural area as well as small old towns with no real businesses. The shopping center was expanded to bring Walmart . That's when Radio Shack and Subway came back. Too bad about Radio Shack, though. Bob's Big Boy came to town and left as well. Tore that down, built a Chevy Chase Bank (local). Capital One Bailout Bank bought them out, ran it awhile, then shut it down, now sits empty like a lot of other former Chevy Chase/now Capital One Bailout Bank.
