Yep, what norville said. The Camaro sensor is definitely the way to go. Just add the correct pigtail to your engine harness and run the sender wire back to your gauge. I used sensor TX111 and pigtail HP4440, both made by Standard Motor Products.

clay68c10 does a nice job and goes into more detail and demonstrates how this sensor works with the stock gauge here.

Here's my sensor and pigtail installed in the stock 5.3 sensor location.
