Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank

Got my tank, thanks a bunch Dave.

A couple of questions:

1) Has anyone painted their tank?

2) Do you put a breather on the vent or a tube or do you just leave it open?

Hope to install it as soon as it stops raining up here!!!

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank

subscribed for the next group buy. Also is there a FAQ on installing the side fill on a plain jane c/20? I assume the spare tire has to come out. What needs to be cut or drilled during installation? Where besides the bed (or a fancy hidden tail light filler) are people putting the fill tube?

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank

Hey Dave,

Have been doing research and found it is an excellent quality product. I bought my 72 GMC with a filler lid placed in the bed by the tailgate in the center between both bed quarters. here are some pictures. What would it cost for your standard tank on this forum, but move the fill neck moved to the center as pictured and keep the same neck length. Thanks Paul

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank

I thought I should post the tank installed. I decide to mount it on top of the bottom frame rail. It seemed to be not deep enough to mount on the bottom of the frame. Maybe something to do with the 4x4 frame.

Overall I am very happy with it..

Mark,

That looks very nice, the only this I can see that might be a problem with mounting as you did is if you have to drop the tank you would have to remove the bumper and cross member to slide it out, but it looks very nice anyway its done IMO

We wont be running another group buy untill later this year. we will also need to collaborate with our new vendors as-well.

If you are looking for a deal in the mean time. Travis @ Pro-Performance is running a May Special. Here is a link to his thread with the discount code

Re: Boyd Welding-67-72 Rear Mount Aluminum Tank

Here is mine mounted up. I am a little worried that it sits too low in the frame, and don't really see much of a reason it couldn't be raised up a little. But all in all, I really like it, great product! I had to remove my rear crossmember and move it back because of my Watts link setup, otherwise it would have fit fine. I also think the mounting flanges could be moved back on the tank a little, the front edge of them actually do not contact the frame because it starts to curve upwards over the axle. Mine is moved back slightly, so it pretty much cured that issue, but if I wouldn't have moved my rear crossmember there would have been about 1" or so of the mounting flange on the tank that didn't even contact the frame.

I thought about mounting it inside the frame, but It really only would have gained me 1/2" or so, and I would have had to remove the crossmember, bumper, and probably the bed if I ever needed to get it out.

Great product at a great price, THANKS DAVE!

Subscribed. I called their shop a week or two back and got the run down on their EFI tanks. Very nice folks and they are happy to answer questions.

I'll be buying one in the next month or two if anyone wants to get together on another group buy!

That would be 6 of us including myself. I know you mentioned you wouldnt be doing another group buy for a while, but perhaps another special with Pro Performance? I just missed the boat on this stuff (jumping back in after letting it sit a few years).
