Re: Patina love

Been having a full throttle stumble since I bought this truck a month ago. I flushed tank, installed eBay electric choke 1 barrel, installed new fuel pump, installed HEI along with the firewall to distributor rewire. Always starts like a champ runs smooth throughout throttle except for full throttle. Yesterday while getting parts at orielly it wouldn’t even click to start. So I used there battery jumper and got home to check. Low and behold the 3 wire alternator to a crap. So this a.m. I decided to install a 1 wire setup. Mostly for being simplistic and less wiring. So I bought a 61amp 1 wire, and ran new 10 gauge wire from alternator to starter post as I like to no clutter up battery. Thing runs the best it has ever ran. Wish I would have caught this early on.

Thanks. I’m a slow learner sometimes. Why does it rotate my pics?

Re: Patina love

On another note I got heater core/ heater hoses/radiator hoses, all new clamps, water pump, 195 thermostat, thermostat housing gaskets. Radiator going in tomorrow to get the rod out treatment hope it’s all good. Then reinstall and on to the next thing. lol. Everything I touch gets the full treatment of degrease, scrape, sand, wire wheel, primer and paint. Planning the Chevy orange treatment on the engine too

Re: Patina love

So yesterday I dropped the radiator off to Mac’s Radiator in Bend. Today I get a call that it passed pressure test but recommended rodding out, which may or may not clean the corrosion and could make it leak, depending on the rust that gets removed. lol. So I asked price for rodding and price for new. 900.00 new and 400.00 to rod out. wtf? I can buy new from lmc for 325*♂️

I took my original 4 core to a radiator shop to repair a heater hose nipple I brok off it. The shop did that, rodded it and painted it for 80 bucks. The shop does mostly heavy equipment radiators so they have quite a lot of business. Didn't balk at my repair/refurbish request and my rad was in really good condition. YMMV

Check the thread on old school radiator shops.

Re: Patina love

And then this just arrived CPP crossmember quality. CPP c-notch to arrive Saturday. So if I get the weather and the time I’ll yank the bed off and knock out everything from the cab back. This is all to prep for another 2” lowering in the rear with block. But gotta get the front rebuilt and updated with disc and 2.5 drop spindles.

Re: Patina love

With the good comes the bad. I had bought a heater core from lmc and while I was sitting here looking at fresh snow I went and pulled the heater box. Low and behold some jack wagon had broke the bottom edge of it. So I continued on to the new heater core not being compatible with the old copper/brass one’s small mounting straps. I didn’t want to cobble them up so I’d have for another box. So I Jerry rigged up a mounting solution and will be putting it back together for the meantime. Can anyone recommend a new heater box that is new and complete

Re: Patina love

Had time today to get radiator installed along with everything else new in the cooling system including a fan shroud. Had to buff the new radiator rubbers top and bottom as they were so large i couldn’t get the top mounts to sit flat. Amazing how much better the heater works when there is a thermostat installed. Ha. 3 gallons coolant in and ever so slight air still but getting better. Took forever for thermostat to open. Nevermind the wiring across core support the loom wash thrashed an i need to get it recovered

Re: Patina love

Got some energy to knock out the CPP crossmember tonight. Everything is sanded, primed and painted black where it will sit when installed tomorrow. Rivets are always the worst thing to get out. 2 bloody knuckles aint to bad with bed still on. After this is done i will get a plan to get the c-notches in and done.

Re: Patina love

Got time to install LMC door felt kits. The felt on wing window and top to back of door are decent fitting and quality but the glass wipers are horrible. I dont recommend them to anyone. Haha

Re: Patina love

That engine turned out to be pretty bad compression all cylinders. Then this happened today. 2009 lc9 5.3 suposssedly the dod failed and it has a bad lifter. It was replaced with a complete long block therefore missing everything in the change over but i obly paid 100 bucks lol. If the bottom end good i will dod delete and put together with a mild cam.
