Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds

Just acquired this beginning of this week. The body was really the selling point for me. It has an early generation of the Vortec 350, beefed up tranny (from what I am told), complemented with headers and 3" exhaust. Of course with buying a used truck you always have the surprises. The motor seems real strong and drives great.
My plans are to through some 20x8.5 on the front and 20x10s on the rear tucked nicely. Completely redo the interior, throw in an A/C, mold in the tailgate and a bed cover...just to name a few.

I am putting two new rear 295/50/15s on this truck for now, but when I get my 20s if anyone wants this set give me a shout.

How much for the pretty 50s? Lol, I don't even have enough money anyway.

The frame rails are pretty narrow on the back of these. Back in the day, Truckin' did a story about swapping the spring hangers to the inside of the frame and running the big Mickeys (21 inches wide) without narrowing the frame-and they tucked too. So the only thing in your way really, is the inner fender wells.

Edit: Found this one-not the one I remembered, but you'll at least get the visual

Re: How about some pics of '73-'87 Short Beds

Brand new to this forum today, 11-21-13. Six weeks ago I got great deal on a 78 SWB GMC. Runs alright with half wore out 305/350, needs a lot and I love it. 61 yrs old and finally gonna get my Hot Rod. Ive been having an engine built for past yr as money allows and now know what it will go in. 69 4 bolt, my machinest worked the block and installed Scat 383 5.7in rotating assembly. He is cleaning up 1.94 iron Vortex heads and preparing them for more than .470 lift. When money happens I will do front rear drop. Spring flip, c notch and cut or replace front coils I guess. I dig that look. I hope to have fun sending pics as I go and asking for info and opinions. (the 5.7 rods have been bought and installed and the Vortex heads were best I could afford, $180) How about opinions on cam, man and carb for 380+ hp. I am half ass mechanic at best, but I try and I'm learning.

Re: How about some pictures of '73-'87 short beds

BIGARMZZ,

Looks good! Too bad you got rid of it. Do you mind me asking how much it was dropped and what size wheels and tires were you ruinning?
I'm 3/4 dropped and haven't purchased wheels and tires yet. Still have a ways to go for that.
Thanx!
