Re: Project wild mouse

Don't feel alone on the carb man

Mine was the same way when I first got it running, & I tried 2 different carbs !!!
I finally got the first one to run, but not right so I went to carb #2 & thats whats on there now
But I have to figure out whats wrong with #1 so I can put #2 back on the truck it came off of

But I agree, if I had the money I'd just buy a new one

Re: Project wild mouse

I would love to get rid of the neighbor's dog and the neighbor !!! But the two of them wouldn't be worth a pinch of SH**!!!! Been sidetracked this weekend working on the house !! I have the whole side torn off and they're talking rain here !! This week hopefully I will git it sorted out !! I'm not giving up just a little short on time . I'm one to take my time so I don't screw something up !! I've spent 4 years and approx. $5000 on this motor and trans so a couple more weeks won't kill me !!!! I will do a burnout soon!!!!

Re: Project wild mouse

That's a great looking engine. I like the all business look and there's nothing like a short stroke small block. I'm collecting parts for my next one now. It will be a 306 made from a 4 bolt 350 that I have and a 283 crank using thick bearings designed to put a small journal crank in a large journal block. You can use 350 pistons for a 6.0 rod on a 5.7 rod and deck it to .020 deck height. It's a lot cheaper than buying 302 pistons. The heads will be AFR 180s. and this will go in my '59 Vette. Should be a screamer.

Here's the one I'm just finishing up for the '69 Stepside. It's a milder build than yours with .030 over flat top KBs and ported 194 heads. It uses a mild hyd Crane cam that should have a little lope. I had the carb rebuilt and set up on a running engine so it would be sure to fire right up and run. I worry a lot about that when running in a new flat tappet cam.

I put in the Mallory distriburor and wires since the picture but still have some things to do before I light the fire.

Engine builds are what we need more of around here. Anyone can write a check for a crate motor.

Tom

Re: Project wild mouse

Sounds sweet

What kind of HP do you think your 306 will pump out & what RPM's do you think it'll turn ??? Odd ball engines have been on my mind lately

Re: Project wild mouse

Yup!! I 'm pretty sure I need a master cylinder and I'm having trouble finding a good new one maybe need to look at used ? I don't think they make parts near as good as they used to !!! I hope I can get burnout pics at least before snow , but I won't do nothing stupid like try to run it hard with so so brakes !!! I may take a little vid of it running and driving so you all can see and hear it . It sounds really *****in' I will take some update pics of it outside this weekend . Later ,Bob

Since it is going into a light car I have a solid lifter cam I have been saving for just such an engine. It has a fair amount of overlap so I can bump the compression up to 10.5:1 or maybe even 11 with the aluminum heads and the heart shaped chambers. I don't have everything finalized but the combo is looking to have an RPM range of 3000 to 6500-7000 with the hp peak around 6000-6300. It would not be a good choice for one of our trucks but the '59 weighs around 2800. It should have around 450 hp or maybe even more. It's hard to say. I don't expect the torque numbers to be anything great with a 3" stroke but I want a high winding screamer in the Vette.
