They were 2 different people. I do not remember why they quit posting.

Shane got a permanent vacation. For some reason he was getting more and more personal with posts, and not in a good way. I was on the negative end a few times. His last posts were in 2011.

Cliff was in dire need of a kidney? transplant and with his age I can't imagine he was high up on the list. He also seemed to really enjoy posting here, I can't imagine he just up and quit, so unfortunately, I assumed the worst for Cliff

Same here one day he just disappeared, I’ve assumed the worst ever since.
His posts used to make me laugh; he came across as a grouchy old fart to me sometimes.

I was a closet viewer on this site since my last year or so of high school-about ‘05-‘06 but didn’t actually join till later.

I was graduating high school ('99) when I originally found the old early version of the site. I can kinda remember what the home page looked like. I think Josh posted some images on some anniversary years ago. I lurked for years as well as I didn't really "get" what forums were.... this was the first one I joined. My board name is kinda stupid now as I've pretty much outgrown most of my country ways and have become a boring suburban dad

Yes, ol CDowns, Cliff, came across as an old grouch sometimes but I got the impression he had seen and experienced many things through his lifetime.

He always cracked me up about going on rubber fuel lines and glass fuel filters just waiting to burn a truck up. He might have been right on several points but plenty of people do it regardless.

Oh yes! I moved mine because of him. Mine are all down on the frame rail now away from any heat. I never used the glass ones though, just the plastic.

AND those triangular shaped edelbrock? air filters, those really caused fires too. He'd harp on them too.

Cliff was a good guy. He once sent me detailed plans on how to plumb my new compressor to shoot paint. I followed them exactly and it worked perfectly. He was a knowledgeable guy. He may have had an attitude. But don't we all?

East Side and El Jay were cool too. I miss those guys.

Slomotion. I was just up in Maine and it made me think of him. He may pop in on occasion or be sitting back just reading (I hope) but I couldn't say how long it's been since I've seen him post. A real good member here with a mighty fine truck with very cool interests

I remember enjoying his short stories of when he was younger from his working days ,,they were short notations ,,but told a lot a bout the guy that mostly a mystery .

Re: Old members from the early days

I'm glad I was around and active back in this board's heyday. I met countless board members at local events. I bought and sold more stuff than I could ever remember. We all knew each other's real names and were true pals. I did epic build threads. I did "how-to" threads. We really helped each other out. It was good times.

I simply cannot understand why forum boards are declining and Facebook is taking over. I'm not hating on Facebook really, but it's not the proper venue for technical information exchange like forum boards are.

Memes and family photos and political bickering...social media.

How to fix something technical...forum boards so it can live forever and serve other people later down the road.

I just don't have the time or energy to try and help people on social media where there's no filter and any jerk can spew erroneous info with impunity. I don't really say much online or in real life anymore. Even my wife comments that I'm quiet a lot more nowadays. I've become a dinosaur.

Sorry for rambling.

I couldnt have said it better. It makes zero sense to me why people migrate to Facebook. There really is no comparison between the two.

BTW I still have several parts and pieces I sent down to you to have powder coated, and my son now has all the panel hinges you rebuilt and powder coated for me. I miss all the content you bring to this place.

I get what you are saying about most boards and other social media outlets taking participation from them but, I’d say this board is an exception to that. Some may have left for Facebook and such but this picture is interesting to me. Note when the most ever users on this site was. This board is still quite healthy in my opinion.

Good ramble. Thanks, everything you said is exactly how I feel. Don't get the changes, unless it is simply those who need to follow newness, need change. I only need change when change is for the better. Nothing broken here. Still all it ever was, minus a lot of good people I considered friends. I miss them

I have been here for a little while, I do not get on here as much anymore.

Mostly on Facebook Marketplace or hanging out in my relatively new Shop.

You know I was looking at those numbers the other day too. I swear there were times there was many more than that. I wonder if it resets at the end of each year?

Plus there might be a lot of people here, but just looking at the way the threads roll by in the more "popular" parts of the board, the participation is down.

That number is way off. It does not reset, but that is way off as well.

Kevin.. good to see you. Same with anyone else I have missed.

Ledzepp said it, Shane is here hiding, he knows we know, we know he knows. Its normal for many that leave.

Red Andy is on fb, we keep up with him.

Andy andy is in Oh as Longhair said, married and life.

Cdowns was majorly sick. He was losing his eyesite and other major issues.

Why dont I remember Purs??

68 suburban started major **** years ago and was removed. Hes been back a time or two since, probably is now.

Tom Hand, have not seen him in years.. same with huck.. if I ever get through approving new folks I may look up some of our old pals.

Re: Old members from the early days

It's good to check back in since it's been a long time since I've opened it up. I joined the club when Liz and Josh first started up. What year did you guys start this. A big SALUTE and THANK YOU for the many years and help you've given all of us.

I was working to get old GMC V12s running. They were only built from 60-66, so are pretty collectable now.

I ended up with 2 that are still running I restored. I gave one mounted in a pu to a Museum in Boise City, Okla, which they have it on display there. The other is in a pu back in Guymon, Okla locked up in our farm shop.

At 80+ yrs old, it was time to turn our backs and leave the farm. We bought a retirement home in Missouri, so now live here.

THANKS AGAIN

Re: Old members from the early days

^^^ It's always nice to see you popping in. Your V12 GMC is a memorable feature of this message board.

About the number of members viewing. I remember when total membership was about 1,500 +/- then being amazed one time later when I checked and there were nearly 1,500 online that evening.

I was thinking of Oldblu60@aol yesterday. He lives in MD and we became local friends who did many things together and eventually developed a fairly decent circle of friends from the area, including PA, WVA, and VA as well. He was a fairly early member
Duallyjams is another friend from that group who we don't see here anymore. I know he drifted into Instagram.

Re: Old members from the early days
