Another tangent but parking spaces/lots are now on the chopping block too: https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/...te-walkability

Re: Gas Prices?
They should build above parking lots. There is still the need for adequate parking

Re: Gas Prices?
I dunno where all this free city parking they talk about is in that article. When I was in the copier business our company spent thousands a year on parking in Seattle, Bellevue, Tacoma, Everett, all the municipalities were moving or moved to paid parking. And let me tell you if you were a minute over and they caught you forget about it. The fines were close to and over in some places 100 bucks. And the tow trucks were out and ready at commute time end of day. Ding and they were off yanking stuff right and left off the streets. Talk about another racket, you thinking a parking ticket was high ... ugh. My old boss got caught on the hook twice (he pushed it alot) and had to pay the full fine via credit card right there in order for them to drop him. Cities are criminal in cahoots with the parking people. Shocks me they would even consider losing parking revenue.
Edit, Almost forgot. My SIL has an all electric car and she called me the other day. Hey I have a lot of gas points and since I dont use gas anymore you can use em. Saved me 20 bucks. First time under three dollars in forever lol.

New England energy prices driven ever higher: https://thehill.com/policy/equilibri...es-gas-supply/
“Other key steps include utility-funded energy efficiency programs, the integration of renewables in homes and businesses and “demand response” approaches — which she defined as turning down thermostats, covering windows and layering clothing.”

Re: Gas Prices?
Back in Fall I had to order some beams from the sawmill. I ordered them well ahead of needing them but I still had to wait a while. They were going gangbusters on producing firewood, no time for sawing timbers. The tree guy who removed the tree off the building was busier with firewood than tree work. I watch a logging/sawmill operation on YouTube. They ran out of firewood in November and had to start buying logs to keep up. The cost of fuel is definitely affecting the firewood market. Last time fuel spiked like this firewood prices followed suit after being stable for decades. If it goes up like that again it will kill it's advantage in cost.

Re: Gas Prices?
We found out yesterday we are getting paid (not charging)$32.97 per MCF(1,000 cubic feet) of natural gas we produce this month. This is far beyond all time high for us. Last month was about $10, and that was big news. Normally we get between $1.50-5.00 depending on demand. Guess where it’s all going???? Kalifornia…..
Enterprise products (the natural gas wing of shell) is the midstream company that buys about 85% of our gas and sets the rates at which they buy it. They have a pipeline that can feed Cali if needed, I guess the need is strong because if they are paying us that much, I’m sure they are probably charging close to $50 on their end. Pretty stupid on the part of Kalifornia, they’ve got a metric butt load of gas at their disposal, on shore and off, but regulations won’t let them use it. I do feel for the citizens who are taking it in the shorts right now but, I’d be lying if I said we didn’t all get a little giggle out of the irony of the situation. I guess it’s ok to burn other states Dino farts as long as they didn’t originally come from Kalifornia.

Re: Gas Prices?
Ridiculous! Is natural gas/propane the cleaner fuel or not? I have never had nor will I ever want to have an electric stove. Gas is the only way for me and that is based 100% on practicality in every aspect you can consider. Power outage? I can still cook. It's in expensive while not adding big watts to my electric draw. And it gives the best range top heat control. It's a flame, not glowing rings that only read red hot to your eye. So abundant use of electricity is now the green way to go, ey?
Hard to respect these entities that seem to be grabbing at straws for solutions. Settle down some, focus on what is actually possible now, and move forward from there with a comprehensive plan. --- I had to bite the bullet and pay $3.35 last week. Now it's back down to where it was before $3.35, @$2.99. I was thinking what a pain this must be for the places who's signs are not electronic. They are hauling the ladder out and changing prices almost day to day and in whatever weather. What a PIA!

Re: Gas Prices?
There was talk in California about restricting/taking charcoal starter fluid off the shelves. That got beat up pretty badly, too. There was talk of taking denatured alcohol off the shelves. The sellers panicked and don't have it on their shelves anymore. I'm lucky I still have a gallon for dissolving shellac for wood working projects, though I mostly use spray cans anymore.
Truth is, burning natural gas inside the house does make a lot of pollutants. That said, I'll never get rid of our gas stove unless it breaks, and it'll be replaced with another, even if I have to smuggle one in from another state.

Re: Gas Prices?
Yup. But in Europe, which is pretty condensed, communities are built so that people can walk to purchase most of their needs. Of course, most people there don't own property and have to rent, anyway. Triple-edged sword, or something.

Re: Gas Prices?
If the deal goes through, I wonder what impact the importation of Venezuelan crude oil to the US will have in terms of price? Details here. Since pre-2020 or thereabouts we seemed well supplied without their oil perhaps it's better to tap our own and/or other sources but that's just the "buy local" in me.
The US State Department has this to say regarding Venezuela: "Maduro, who was not reelected via free and fair elections, clings to power through the subversion of democratic institutions, manipulation of elections, and force. His policies are marked by authoritarianism, intolerance for dissent, and violent and systematic repression of human rights and fundamental freedoms including the use of torture, arbitrary detentions, extrajudicial killings, and the holding of more than 300 prisoners of conscience." https://www.state.gov/u-s-relations-with-venezuela/

Re: Gas Prices?
It’s absolutely better to pump our own rather than rely on yet another foreign enemy the future ability to further cripple us. It’s the same stupid logic as natural gas in CA. We have what we need right under our feet rather than getting to it, it apparently invokes a lot less guilt from the greenies to import it from somewhere else rather than be self reliant.

Re: Gas Prices?
I bought a propane grille once. Used it a few times then gave it away. Charcoal is grilling for me, until they outlaw that. Then it will be grille illegally. I can't imagine (not that it couldn't happen) it being illegal to make a fire to cook my food. That would mean cavemen were more advanced.
Quote:
I did see a video made in CA where neighbors called the police on a guy for his grille smoke. And the police made him put the fire out! C'mon people. Take a look around and see what you are doing!
