I think Summit also sells that wheel as a Summit Brand. I have been looking at them too. Can't beat the price.

That's a pretty good idea. Welding the hole shut isn't my hold-up though. If I take the time to relocate the tank, welding the hole and painting is the least of my worries. After I get this thing back on the road I might toy with the ideas of front disc brakes, relocating the fuel tank and other upgrades.

I can always relocate the tank and then weld up the hole and repaint the left corner of the cab without fear.

Thank you for the ideas though, I will keep that in mind for my customers who may want options.

I started getting the tilt in today and forgot my camera so I will have to wait till tomorrow to post pics. Found out that I need the lower part of the shaft as the one in my truck is a single piece and the tilt has a 2 piece shaft. Ugh...

Ok, here are the pics of the tilt swap. Pulling the old column was a pain cause it was a single piece, not a two-piece shaft like the tilt. I like how the gray looks with the now black steering wheel. I also repainted my heater controls black to help make the cream sections stand out even more. Nice contrasts.

Thank you. So far it works good. In the nuteral position my legs almost touch the steering wheel (and I am not a big guy) so I can't imagine ever lowering it. There is plenty of room for it to go up though, which is why I wanted the tilt.

Anyway, can you let me know how you did your door panels? I'l really like to keep the look of the panel in some sort of fabric like that, but I'm at a loss on how to do it.

The door panels were finished in tweed. It forms to the contours of the door panel nicely. Spray some contact cement on the tweed and on the door panel and press the tweed into place. Covered up my beat up panels great!

I can't say that all materials will form that easily but tweed is almost made for that kind of work.

Had a friend give me a power steering pump and started to install it today. It looks like I'm missing the adjusting bracket. I have to put in my power brakes next. I'll post pics tomorrow.

You have a good color sense. The gray column does really go with the tweed. I wasn't sure when you were writing about it, but in the pix, it looks great!

Thanks! The first column I did in cream but then i realized that it was too much. The new color makes the accents in the cab stand out. I can't wait to start driving this sucker!!!

I got the truck all color sanded and buffed today. Took it out and washed it but by the time I finished the sun was behind some clouds. So I pushed it back in and took a pic. I'm getting my transmission crossmenber on Monday and then I can get the drive shaft in. Hopefully not too much longer before I can drive it. Wait... haven't I said that before???

I started building my automatic tranny crossmember over the weekend and rough fit it today. The ones I have seen on the internet seem pretty basic and I had some scrap 2" square 3/16" thick stock laying around as well as some 3/16" steel plate. I also got my starter today. I need to get my driveshaft down and get it shortened and then maybe by next week I can fire this sucker back up. I still need to hook up the 700R4 but it will be a big motivator to hear it running again.

A little update. I got the rear transmission crossmember built, painted and installed. I slid in my driveshaft and got a measurement of how much needs to be shortened. 2 1/2 inches by my calculations. I will take it over to the machine shop Monday. I also got my starter in and hooked up. I made sure the 700 was in park and hit the key really quick.... She wants to start.

I also got my 283 (I pulled it out of my 3/4 ton '68 parts truck. I'm still in therapy on this one, didn't the 307 replace the 283 in '68??? It's a 283 based on the block numbers) on a stand and I will start tearing it down this next week to see all that I will need to order for the rebuild. With the way gas prices are going, I want to build this motor as a gas saver as much as possible. High performance yes, but a gas saver as well. The 305 that is in there now is way more power than I need for crusing, so I'm sure the 283 will be a good motor. I posted a pic of the crossmember and the "new" engine.

I started getting my rear wiring hooked up so I can have taillights again. Not too much longer boys....

If you do an unrestricted exhaust, tall rear gears, RV cam and easy on the GO pedal, you should get 15-20, easy. Just don't expect too much out of the performance end, and you'll be happy.

Sweet, I was thinking if I can get 15-18 I would be pretty happy. The truck has an Eddlebrock (maybe... I think... it could be a Holly) carb and decent headers already. It has alot of geddy-up, way more than that truck really needs, or at least in my opinion.

I got my driveshaft back from the machine shop today and got it installed. I also got my rear taillights working as well as the blinkers. I thought I would post a couple of pics of the driveshaft rework and the install of the rear transmission crossmember. I threw in one of the power steering pump for good measure.
