Re: Jans 53

Nothing exciting to report, did manage to strip and primer a front fender for body work.
To anyone who has removed the rear hood brace for clean up and primer is it better to spot weld back in or would pop rivets work?

Ask MARTINSR about that; he had his apart recently.

And your work looks super clean.

Your drivetrain sure looks nice and shiny. I for one will not be opening my hood at any shows.

Looks great! Very nice work - these old fenders are tough and usually really beat!

very pretty!

I would weld, rivets are usually aluminum and I dont think would hold up to the environment.

Re: Jans 53

Your color choices are very similar to what I wanted but in the end I went with grey.

You might look at the new Subarus, they have a Desert Khaki that has a nice sage green tone.

Nothing very exciting to report, been working on getting body work finished up. Found some rot on the inside lower doors I had forgotten about so I started on that today. The living room is filling up with body parts, thankfully I am the wife and I say it’s ok they can stay there as long as it takes,LOL.

Re: Jans 53

Thanks everyone I’m slowly plugging away, been prepping all the small parts, inner fenders and such for paint.
Been thinking about using raptor liner on underside of fenders and the floor and walls of the cab. Anybody have any thoughts on this, I would love some feed back.

Re: Jans 53

I did that on the Cherokee and like it. Helps with noise and rock dents.

I just sprayed raptor on the bottom and top of the floors in my 53 suburban. The fenders and running boards are next. They recommend spraying at 40-60 PSI. It you dial back to a lower pressure you will get a little rougher finish than spraying at 60 psi or above. I like how it sealed everything..

Looking good...

Marc

Re: Jans 53

I got some undercoating stuff from when I worked at the dodge house. Went on real good and it's pretty thick. Had to go back and add seat belt anchors. Was a pain to clean off a couple spots. But I bet it won't rust out.

Re: Jans 53

I used the black Raptor liner on the inside of my fenders and bottom of cab. It's only been a little over a year but I'm really happy with it so far.

Also, a friend of mine has 2 cars that he wanted a matte finish on and sprayed the whole car with the tintable Raptor liner ( I would never do this). It's held up really well on both of them.

Re: Jans 53

Thanks for the feed back guy’s, any idea how much I should order? I’m thinking I will do 2 coats under fenders, rear wall, kick panels, floor board, under the dash and under running boards.
Also, can I spray it over SPI epoxy and what grit should I use before I spray?

I bought 2 kits (4) bottles per kit. I used (7) bottles for everything I coated (see my build tread for an idea). I will go back and buy (4) more bottles to do the backsides of my fenders and bottom side of my running boards.

Re: Jans 53

Finally got to do something different than sand and prime today. Shot the inside of my cab and bottom side of inner fenders with Raptor liner. The worst part of the job is getting everything taped off, shooting it is super easy. I’m extremely happy with this product. I have used five bottles so far and still have the under side of the fenders to do.
